How many kinds of lip scrubs we have in the market? Are all kinds of lip scrubs safe to consume? How we recognize which one is safe to eat or which one is hazardous and can be injurious to your well-being.

First, we have the very famous and loved across the board for its tremendous results, the sugar scrub, it comes in different flavors and colors and most of the high-end come containing sugar as an ingredient.

There is also a reason to use sugar as an exfoliating agent for your lips as it acts as a natural exfoliator, it’s also cheap and scrubs really well the surface without leaving it dry and brittle.

Yes, it is safe to use all kinds of sugar scrubs that are homemade or branded, safe to use while taking a shower or if you lick it accidently or intentionally, it is totally safe because it doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals etc.

So the final verdict for sugar scrub because it contains only natural ingredients i.e. sugar which is safe to consume. , eco-friendly non-toxic, and edible!

It is also suggested for the kids use.

What is lip scrub made out of?

Lip scrub is usually made out with the main ingredient which is sugar, any kind of essential oil, and to maintain the moisture in it use can use either the coconut oil or the honey. For better color or looks impressive you can also add a little bit amount of dye.

Are lip scrubs good for you?

Yes of course, to remove dead skin from your lips and make them appear pink, you can use lip scrubs. We need to use lip scrub occasionally on the lips. Like your face and body skin, the lips are very delicate and because of lack of hydration and sun exposure they turn dull and tan.

This requires proper attention towards it to maintain its fuller and healthy outlook and remove dull and dead skin.

Precautions to be taken while using the lip scrub are as follows;

Make sure not to rub the lips scrub too harshly as it leads to dryness of the delicate skin of your lips quickly.

Don’t forget to use a good amount and quality of moisturizer afterwards. In my opinion, Vaseline is the best amongst all lip moisturizers but I leave it to your good judgment about it.

Do you wash off lip scrub?

If your lips scrub is edible, that in most of the cases it is, then you don’t need to rinse it with a splash of water. You can either lick it properly from your lips so it doesn’t come off or you can maintain its balance and prevent from over-drying.

You can use lukewarm water or wash cloth with your gentle hands to remove it from the lips, the choice is yours. Just make sure you remove it gently and don’t become too harsh while trying to remove the dead skin.

It sounds weird but it is important to mention here that although the lip scrub is edible, you are licking the dead skin with the used scrub which is weird and unhygienic in my perspective.

The best way to use lip scrub is in the shower, first apply a pea-sized scrub and apply gently on your lips. Leave it for about two minutes to dissolve the sugar. Then with the soft hands or with the help of washcloth and Luke warm water gently rub it off to completely remove it.

Apply moisturizer afterwards and you have THE best kissed lips ready to shine.

Can You eat lush lip scrub?

Yes, of course. The very famous brand on the face of this earth which is trustworthy and delicious in taste claims that their products are organic and best in its source and are totally edible. Take out your most favorite one next time and along with applying to your lips, you can ingest some of it to enjoy its taste as well.

Does lip scrub make lips pink?

When the dirt comes off gently from your lips and because of scrubbing and exfoliating affect your lips, they turn pink but only for a while or may be for a longer period. However, if you have not been gentle with your scrubbing effect, don’t expect the same results. Our lips are so gentle to touch we need to focus while treating them gently and sufficiently according to their need.

Can I use lip scrub every day?

I love to use the home made lip scrub everyday especially in the summers because I got tan on my lips because of sun exposure.

You can prepare it at home for yourself by following a few simple steps. The quickest and easiest way is to just mix the two ingredients:

  • Squeeze a grape fruit juice in the spoon or in a tiny container and add sugar preferably the brown sugar.
  • Squeeze a lemon juice and add enough sugar to make a consistency to apply it easily on your lips.

These above are my most favorite ones to use in the summers.

You may also need to focus on applying at the same duration every day.  Don’t apply it for more than 2 minutes because otherwise it will turn your lips extra dry.

Or in winters you might use the lip scrub weekly to prevent the brittleness or dryer lips because of winter.

There’s also a general misconception that in winters you should avoid scrubs and exfoliates. I’ve personally tried it during the winter every once in a while without any consequences, rather I’ve always found my lips to be softer than before.

You have to apply the scrubs because in winters your skin is more brittle and tends to create more dead skin as compared to the summers. We can use the scrub on weekly basis but with some precautions to be followed;

The lip scrub must contain oil any kind of oil whether its coconut or olive to prevent dryness.

The good amount of moisturizer MUST BE used after having lip scrub several times in a day.

How long homemade lip do scrubs last?

If you keep it in cooler and dry place, it will last about a month or so and if you refrigerate it then it will last about 2-3 months easily. You can also gauge from the appearance of the mixture, if you notice anything fishy in the texture or if it doesn’t smell the same and has a rusty feel to it, just do away with it and go for a new one.

How to make edible lip scrub?

All kinds of chemical-free or sugar containing scrubs are edible.

For summers,

  • MIX the three ingredients Sugar, honey and lemon juice and you have the yummiest lip scrub to enjoy

For winters,

  • MIX the three ingredients, sugar, coconut oil and lemon juice and enjoy

How to make lip scrub without honey?

Yes, of course. Honey is used to maintain the balance of moisture in the scrub, if you are not using the oil in it. If you are allergic to honey or you didn’t like the stickiness of the honey, you can simply substitute it with any kind of oil whether coconut or olive oil etc.

DIY edible lip scrub without coconut oil

Like I said earlier, to make the scrub balanced we can use honey or oil in it to prevent over-drying effect onto the lips.

You can simply make it at home without coconut oil

MIX the sugar, honey and any kind of citrus acid preferably lemon juice.

Or if you want to avoid both honey and coconut oil or also don’t want to use any kind of oil in it then you can go for the green tea dried leaves, just open a green teabag and use that for your lip scrub which also maintains the balance and prevents sensitivity which occurs because of over-scrubbing or over-exfoliating the delicate skin of your lips.
